The 11th Annual 3rd EyE Open was a huge success. The theme for the 11th was "Year of the Woman," and was executed nicely. The live art murals reflected the event's theme perfectly as many of the artists incorporated female imagery and messages. We were privileged to have Too Fly, Vik & Shiro, the first female graff artists to bless the Open, in attendance. You could see their beautiful mural, as well as the others from the 11th Open, HERE.
The headliner of the event, Jean Grae, captivated the audience with a great set, and special guests Tiye Phoenix and Climbing Poetree travelled down to greet the crowd with lyrical gems.
The 1 on 1 B-Girl battle premiered at the Open with B-Girl Lizzy winning that competition. There were also much fireworks in the 3 on 3 breakin' and 1 on 1 poppin' battles.
The ladies division in the 3 on 3 basketball tournament got off to a great start, as the tournament featured more than 35 teams. There was a dunk show by the world renowned Team Flight Brothers (formerly of AND 1) and great highlights all around.
The Open expanded its horizon by featuring a skate jam hosted by AFC (Ambassadors for Christ) out of New Bedford.
The kids activities section was hopping all day with the moonbounce, recycled art, face painting, and new amusements such as an obstacle course, bungee run, and joust.
All in all, the event had a lot of diverse activities for many different folks.
If you didn't attend, the DVD will be released in the fall, so you could see the highlights.
Look forward to the 12th. PUT OUT THE WORD!
